چکیده

The formation of a distribution of cluster sizes is a common feature in a wide variety of situations. Examples include astrophysics, atmospheric physics and polymer science, [2, 3, 8]. In this paper we discuss some mathematical aspects of the Smoluchowski coagulation equation which is a model for the dynamics of cluster growth. This model involves a coupled infinite system of ordinary differential equations for cj ≥ 0, the expected number of clusters consisting of j−particle clusters per unit of volume. The equations are

A Stochastic Approach for Simulating Spatially Inhomogeneous Coagulation Dynamics in the Gelation Regime

We present a stochastic approach for the simulation of coagulation-diffusion dynamics in the gelation regime. The method couples the mass flow algorithm for coagulation processes with a stochastic variant of the diffusion-velocity method in a discretized framework. The simulation of the stochastic processes occurs according to an optimized implementation of the principle of grouping the possibl...

Instantaneous gelation in Smoluchowski's coagulation equation revisited.

We study the solutions of the Smoluchowski coagulation equation with a regularization term which removes clusters from the system when their mass exceeds a specified cutoff size, M. We focus primarily on collision kernels which would exhibit an instantaneous gelation transition in the absence of any regularization. Numerical simulations demonstrate that for such kernels with monodisperse initia...

An Efficient Stochastic Algorithm for Studying Coagulation Dynamics and Gelation Phenomena

A new class of e cient stochastic algorithms for the numerical treatment of coagulation processes is proposed. The algorithms are based on the introduction of ctitious jumps combined with an acceptance-rejection technique for distributions depending on particle size. The increased e ciency is demonstrated by numerical experiments. In particular, gelation phenomena are studied.

Absence of Gelation and Self-Similar Behavior for a Coagulation-Fragmentation Equation

The dynamics of a coagulation-fragmentation equation with multiplicative coagulation kernel and critical singular fragmentation is studied. In contrast to the coagulation equation, it is proved that fragmentation prevents the occurrence of the gelation phenomenon and a mass-conserving solution is constructed. The large time behavior of this solution is shown to be described by a selfsimilar sol...

Induced gelation in a two-site spatial coagulation model

A two-site spatial coagulation model is considered. Particles of masses m and n at the same site form a new particle of mass m + n at rate mn . Independently, particles jump to the other site at a constant rate. The limit (for increasing particle numbers) of this model is expected to be non-deterministic after the gelation time, namely, one or two giant particles randomly jump between the two s...
